Soraya & Hank | Carnegie Museum of Art Weddings
So excited to share Soraya and Hank's wedding day with you! Such a lovely, lovely couple. We first got to spend some time with Soraya and Hank when we photographed their engagement session and we knew right then and there that their wedding day was going to be extra fantabulous. Hank has such a calm manner about him and an easy smile. It was so touching to see his face just light the night every time he looked at Soraya. The smile would start with the upturn of his lips in one corner, then you'd see the teeth followed by that warmth creeping right up into his eyes as they crinkled in the corners, finished off with a huge toothy grin. Annnd Soraya....life of the party for sure. HUGE smile at all times, beautiful laugh, cracking jokes, delivering one-liners and all with hugs, sweetness and buckets of love. I will tell you, I didn't feel like I was working at this wedding; I felt like I was a guest that just happened to have a very expensive camera and knew how to use it. And such beauty in the day! Look at those bridesmaids dresses! After describing Soraya's personality to you, is it any wonder she wanted her bridesmaids showing off their beauty in bold, bright, gorgeous colors?? And you'll notice the Sofreh table tradition after the ceremony. Soraya's mother's side of the family is Greek (listening to Soraya talk to her grandparents in Greek over the computer because they couldn't be here for the wedding was touching) but her dad's side is Persian. You may remember this from Natalie & Amir's wedding we photographed this year. I love love love this tradition! The table is filled with items to mark the future hopes, dreams and wishes for the couple and it was so fun to see Soraya and Hank accept this tradition together. What was interesting was the tradition NOT to rush guests out of the ceremony site so photos can be taken. They are invited to socialize and leave at will...which made photos interesting. ;-) I loved it.
And then the party started. I believe Soraya and Hank were the most dancingest couple I have ever witnessed. Hank left the dance floor to regenerate a few times but Soraya just never stopped. You'll notice that Soraya changed her wedding gown for the reception and it was a good thing. Her ceremony gown was STUNNING but not very easy to move in. So her reception gown was a necessity to really be able to enjoy her night. Both gowns were just lovely.
And then, just like that, the party was over. I don't feel bad though...the next day Soraya and Hank took off for Hawaii...poor things. ;-)
